Introduction


I bought this watch a few years ago, at a time when I was getting tired of seeing smartwatches everywhere. To me, a traditional watch represents something different—class, style, and a bit of sophistication that technology just doesn’t replicate.


As a teacher, something like a Rolex wasn’t exactly in the cards. So I did what most people do—I searched “best value watch” on Google. The name that kept coming up at the top was Seiko. Without diving too deep down the rabbit hole, I landed on the Seiko SUR363.


Looking back, it was the perfect first step into watch collecting.



Design


The SUR363 is all about simplicity. A clean black dial, polished stainless steel case, and subtle gold accents give it just enough personality without overdoing it. It leans dressy, but doesn’t feel out of place in everyday situations.


It’s the kind of watch that doesn’t beg for attention—but still gets noticed.



Wear & Experience


This is a watch I’ve worn just about everywhere. It’s been with me on trips to Hawaii and even in the press box of a high school football game I was helping coach—where, after a big touchdown, the bracelet snapped clean off my wrist mid-celebration.


Not ideal timing, but a great memory.


Since then, I’ve swapped it onto a leather strap from a Dan Henry watch I picked up, and it honestly elevated the whole look. It wears comfortably, slips easily under a cuff, and just works in almost any setting.



Value


At its price point, this is where Seiko really shines. You’re getting a reliable quartz movement, solid build quality, and a timeless design that won’t go out of style.


It’s not flashy. It’s not complicated. It’s just a good watch—and sometimes that’s exactly what you want.



Final Verdict


This is the watch that started it all for me, and it’s one I’ll never part with. No matter how many watches come and go, this one will always have a place in my collection.
